How to fix a Match Event assigned to the wrong player

If an event, like a goal or a shot, shows the wrong player, it's usually because Veo AI matched it to an incorrect jersey number. This guide explains why that happens and walks you through reassigning the correct player to an event, in the Veo Editor on desktop or in the Veo app on your phone.

Requirements

  • You need to be a team Editor or admin to edit match events
  • This applies to soccer/football recordings only

Why this happens

Veo AI detects players mainly from the jersey numbers visible in your footage. If a number is misread, or if players haven't been linked to their jersey numbers in your Lineup, an event can end up tagged with the wrong player.

How to fix it in the Veo Editor

  1. Open the Events panel from the side menu
  2. Find the event with the incorrect player and click the arrow icon to open it
  3. Click the jersey icon and select Remove jersey to clear the current assignment
  4. Click Who did it? and select the correct player from the list

Once saved, the event will show as edited by you and will keep the player you selected.

Note: If the correct player isn't in the list, they likely don't have a jersey number assigned yet. Use Assign jersey numbers in Lineup at the bottom of the player list to link them, then return to the event to assign it.

How to fix it in the Veo app

On your phone, you can change the player on an event directly from the Events tab. You can move the event to any player on your team or on the opponent's team.

  1. Open the match in the Veo app and tap Events
  2. Tap the ⋮ icon on the event you want to fix
  3. Under Assign Players, tap the player currently linked to the event
  4. On the Edit Player screen, select the correct player
  5. Tap the checkmark in the top right corner
  6. Tap Reassign to confirm. The event now shows the new player's name and jersey

Note: In the app you can swap the player already linked to an event. You can't add a player to an event that has none, remove a player, or change events with more than one player, such as goals and duels. For those, use the Veo Editor. For more on the Events tab, see Player stats in the Veo app.

What to avoid

  • Don't skip setting jersey numbers in your Lineup, since that's what Veo AI uses to detect players automatically

FAQs

Will this affect my Player Stats?

Yes. Player Stats in Analytics Studio pull directly from event and Lineup data, so reassigning a player updates their stats automatically.

Can I fix the player on an event from my phone?

Yes, if you're a team Editor or admin. In the Veo app, tap the ⋮ icon on the event in the Events tab and change the player under Assign Players. Events with more than one player, such as goals and duels, can only be changed in the Veo Editor. See How to fix it in the Veo app.

Why isn't the correct player showing up in the list?

Players only appear once they've been added to your Lineup. Use Assign jersey numbers in Lineup to add them.

Does this also fix events assigned to the wrong team?

No. If the issue is the team rather than the player, see How to fix Match Events assigned to the wrong team.
