Deleted a recording? What can and can't be recovered

This article explains what happens when a recording is deleted, which recordings can be recovered, and how to request a recovery from Veo Support. It applies to recordings made with Veo Cam and Veo Go.

Two ways a recording can be deleted

A recording can be deleted at two different moments, and the result is very different:

  • After upload: the recording is deleted from the Veo app or web by an admin. It can be recovered for 90 days
  • Before upload: the file is deleted directly on the device that recorded it, before it was uploaded. It can't be recovered

Who can delete a recording after upload

Only admins of the team or club that owns the recording can delete it.

  • Team admins can delete recordings that belong to their team
  • Clubhouse admins can delete recordings that belong to their club
  • Members who aren't admins can't delete recordings, even if they made the recording
  • Admins of other teams or clubs can't delete the recording
  • Demo recordings can't be deleted by anyone

You can delete a recording from Home or from View all Recordings. To learn how, see How to edit your Veo recordings details.

Note: Users without permission may still see the delete option. If they try to delete the recording, they get the message "Can't delete Recording".

What happens when a recording is deleted after upload

  • The recording disappears from the Veo app and web for all team and club members straight away
  • If the recording is still uploading or processing, the processing stops
  • The team and club admins get an email saying the recording has been deleted
  • The recording is kept in our system for 90 days, so it can still be recovered during that time

Warning: Deleting a recording doesn't give you back your recording hours. Once hours are used, they're gone, even if you delete the recording.

Recover a recording deleted after upload

A deleted recording can be recovered within 90 days of deletion. The Clubhouse admin needs to contact Veo Support to request the recovery, and include the recording name or the date of the recording.

Warning: Recovery requests must be made within 90 days of deletion. After 90 days, the recording is permanently deleted and can't be recovered.

Recordings deleted before upload

Files that haven't been uploaded yet can be deleted directly on the device that recorded them: your Veo Cam, or your phone if you record with Veo Go. To delete a file, swipe or long-press it. Anyone with access to the device can do this, not only admins.

  • The file is deleted only from that device.
  • Because the file never reached Veo, there's no copy of it anywhere
  • That footage is permanently gone, and Veo Support can't recover it
  • With Veo Go, deleting the Veo Go app before the upload is finished also deletes the recording permanently

Warning: Deleting a file before it's uploaded can't be undone. Double-check before you delete anything that hasn't been uploaded yet.

FAQs

Can I restore a deleted recording myself?

No. Only Veo Support can restore a deleted recording. The Clubhouse admin needs to contact Veo Support within 90 days of deletion.

Will I get my recording hours back if I delete a recording?

No. Recording hours are used when the recording is made. Deleting the recording doesn't restore them.

Why can't I delete a recording?

Only admins of the team or club that owns the recording can delete it. Making the recording doesn't give you permission to delete it. If you're not an admin of that team or club, you see the message "Can't delete Recording". Demo recordings can't be deleted by anyone.

I deleted a file on my Veo Cam or phone before it was uploaded. Can Veo Support get it back?

No. The file was never uploaded to Veo, so there's no copy to recover.

It's been more than 90 days since the recording was deleted. Can it still be recovered?

No. After 90 days, deleted recordings are permanently removed and can't be recovered.
